Why Choose West Harbour School?

Mission Statement

Our vision is:

To enable our children to become proactive citizens who are confident, resilient, lifelong learners capable of making informed decisions.

West Harbour School will achieve our vision through:

THE WEST HARBOUR WAY

Respect; Hauora; Responsibility; Do Your Best; Co-operation; Have a go; Pride; Celebrating; Determination; Coping.

Communication

We have a positive and open relationship with our community. We endeavour, through newsletters, special days and evening meetings to establish exactly what it is that parents wish their children to achieve and how we can all work to get the best results.

Teaching Staff
At West Harbour School we ensure that our teachers (as well as our teachers' aides) receive regular professional development. This enables them to keep up to date with the latest curriculum requirements as well as current teaching methods. We are an extremely well-resourced school in terms of books, equipment and facilities.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities
Children are encouraged to join a range of school sports' teams, including netball, rugby, touch, basketball and tag teams. Netball is very popular with our girls and they play in a Saturday competition, held at West Harbour School, competing with other local primary schools. The basketball teams play in an after-school competition at the Massey Leisure Centre. Touch and Tag are played at Moire Park.

Achievement
The school runs a wide programme for children with special needs. These are held in small groups every day and the children have shown real progress. As well, we have programmes for gifted and talented students, that include swimming, dance, science, art, Pasifika learning, etc. We try to be proactive in meeting the needs of our children at the time they need it. Academically, the children are given the opportunity to enter the Australasian Schools competition (computers, maths, science, English and writing). We have a computerised tracking system that follows the children's learning and achievement throughout their time at West Harbour School.

When you contact the school, please ask for Deputy Principal who handles enrolment enquiries, or you are welcome to email us at administration@westharbour.school.nz

Prior to enrolment, parents are welcome to visit the school and meet the Principal/Deputy Principal to discuss any queries they may have relating to the school. On enrolment, details such as address, phone number, emergency contacts and specific health matters will be noted. If the child is a New Entrant (5 years old), parents need to bring a copy of the birth certificate and immunisation certificate. Parents are invited to enroll their children six months to one year prior to their fifth birthday, so that pre-school visits can be arranged and classes can be organised.
