Room 16
Welcome
I hope everyone enjoyed their well-deserved Christmas break. Everyone in Room 16 is looking forward to a great learning year. The theme for this year is ‘Challenges and Changes'. We will be able to learn about a range of topics in some depth, and each term we will be focussing on a particular learning area.
In term 1 we will focus on the Social Sciences part of our topic. The girls and boys will find out and develop an understanding of how the ancient Egyptians blossomed as a civilisation, and how today we can trace parts of the western culture back to them.
We will update you on the progress, as we move through the school year.
The children have already started making their classroom look like a great learning environment, with helpful posters titled ‘How we show pride in our learning' and ‘How we help our teacher to teach us best'.
The children are keeping a learning diary, a notebook to record their academic progress, which will be used as part of the teacher/student/parent interviews.
Tip:
Your child wants to talk to you about his/her day at school. He/she enjoy showing you what he/she has learnt and take pride in his/her work. Give your child some time on a regular basis to catch up on the school day. Every day would be ideal, otherwise as often as possible.
Some questions you could ask:
- What is something you have learnt today?
- What level are you in Reading and Writing?
- What stage are you in Maths?
- What do you need to learn next?
- Show me how you do, make, solve this....
- What did you find difficult? What was easy?
- What is something you need to practise?
This will engage your child in his/her learning, allowing him/her to grow as a learner. It will also help you to bond with your child and is very rewarding.
Reminders:
•1. We need a note if your child cannot swim.
- 2. Teacher/Student/Parent goal setting interview dates , 14 - 15 March, please book early to secure your favoured slot
•3. All stationery and clothing items are to be named.
