Room 19

Welcome to Room 19's web pages.  Explore and see Room 19 learners in action!

There are currently 28 students in our class with 14 girls and 14 boys. Room 19 students come from a variety of different cultural backgrounds, these include European,Tongan, Samoan, Maori, Fijian, Indian, Tuvaluan, Nuian, Filipino, Tokelauan, Cook Island backgrounds.

TERM 1 LEARNING

INTEGRATED CONCEPT:

Our learning concept for Term 1 is: CHALLENGES AND CHANGES, with a focus on Ancient Egypt.

This concept will be integrated into all learning areas.

SCIENCE: Chemistry

Students will be learning and examining aspects of Ancient Egypt from a chemistry perspective. 

These are the key questions that we will explore:

What changes occur when materials are mixed, heated or cooled?

What methods are used to mix, melt or cool materials?

 

MATHEMATICS:

Students will be developing their use of different strategies to solve problems involving fractions and ratios. Students will also be developing their knowledge and skills in Statistics and Algebra.

READING:

After initial testing, students will be continuing to learn and develop their use of different comprehension strategies. Students will be reading texts they have chosen themselves and also concept-study related texts e.g. texts about Ancient Egypt, archeology, anthropology. 

WRITING:

This term Room 19 will be developing their skills in recount and report writing. Report writing will be linked to our studies in Social Studies and Science.
