Reading

Room 3 are fantastic readers! We do reading everyday to help us achieve our personal reading goals.

On a Mondays we go to the school library where Miss Osborne and Princess Fiona help us to learn about the special areas in the library, how to look after our amazing library, and how to choose a book that is perfect for us. We have learnt about the '5 Finger Test'. It is a great way to help us choose a book that wont be too easy but also wont be too hard.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we do reading straight after morning tea (11:10-12:20).
We start our reading lesson by doing some SSR.
We carry on our reading lesson by doing Shared Reading. We love doing Shared Reading as we can all join in the reading of the big book together and we learn lots of new reading and/or language skills. Some of the things we have already learnt about are rhyming words, punctuation, compound words, and sequencing the story.
After Shared Reading we do our Reading Tumble. Miss Osborne works with a small group on the mat while the rest of us work on improving our reading skills by engaging in learning activities such as the Listening Post, Language Box games, Word Work activities etc. Each group with Miss Osborne is grouped by their learning needs. They spend 15 minutes with her and then they have a learning task focused on their learning intention to continue with.
On Fridays we read a poem all together. This helps us learn all about rhyming words and patterns. Our poem is usually based on our Sound of the Week.

We really love reading and are really good at getting involved in our learning and taking responsibility for our own learning and achievements. We are all well on our way to reaching our reading goals.
